John Lott One-Upped

The ambition of an artist:
A former University at Buffalo addictions researcher hired professional actors to testify on his behalf during an investigation into whether he fabricated data in federally funded studies, state prosecutors said Tuesday.

William Fals-Stewart paid three actors to speak by phone during a university misconduct hearing in 2007 - and then sued the state for $4 million when their false testimony helped exonerate him, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's office said.
Now that's the kind of kooky plot we like to see succeed! But wait a minute:
The actors, using scripts written by Fals-Stewart, testified as three people who had worked on his projects at the university's Research Institute on Addictions or who had access to records, prosecutors said in court documents. One of them told investigators he had been paid $200 for his testimony.
He's just another iteration of The Man keeping the poor jobbing actor down.

Is this a syringe which I see before me,
The plunger toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee.
I have thee not, and yet I see thee still.
Art thou not, strung-out vision, sensible
To feeling as to sight? or art thou but
A syringe of the mind, a false creation,
Proceeding from the horse-oppressed brain?

Well I'm in my office at the wrong end of a bottle of Rye when in walks a dame. A dame like any other except I could see she was Tee E E Trouble.
"Hello there, " she said in a voice that could boil ice cubes "Want to take a survey, Seamus???"

Wrong end? Keep the bottle in a paper bag. That way you never know when the end is near.

On topic: $200.00 to 'phone in some perjury for a couple of hours?

That's better than the acting types would get for a day's worth of dirty-talk on the sex lines where most of them work.

Actors should not be spoiled.

Link (in your posting) to the original article went to a 404 "not found" page; a second try transported us to a 500 "server error" page. A search on that publication's site for cuomo actor william fals-stewart, etc., etc. yields nothng. Maybe (?!) their site is screwed up.

Google turned up many possibilities, though. Here's one:

It worked when I tried it anyway.

Eh, using the cached one for now because it contains the $200 reference.

Dr. Fals-Stewart died mysteriously shortly after his arrest. No cause of death has yet been identified.

Gee, will the cause of death be poetic or what?
