Failure

Michael Moore’s ‘Capitalism’ Flops: Even Liberals Stay Away in Droves
by John Nolte
After nearly two months in theaters and all the hype that normally surrounds a Michael Moore film — much of it free thanks to a fawning media, “Capitalism: A Love Story” has flopped. Production costs, advertising costs and whatever Michael Moore takes above the line makes spinning a measly $14.2 million theatrical haul into anything other than a flop impossible.

Note that foreign earnings have not been tallied yet except for some places where starving islanders fight over crabs to survive.

That's also twice as much as "An American Carol" grossed, and that cost $20 million to make.

I'm trolling the thread with that very point, but the banhammer comes down quick there.

FWIW, the ONE TOTAL review I saw of it was not complimentary, calling it a scattered mess.

I don't know much about how Rotten Tomatoes works, but it's at 75% there.

Sorry, just been out crab scrabbling. I haven't read a fully complimentary review of it. Simon Morris on Radio NZ said it needs more fact and less Moore.

Just out of curiosity, what's no. 9 on the list?

Religulous. Pic's linky.

If I'm reading that thing right, even with my meager knowledge of pop culture, Michael Moore has four films in the all time top 8 grossing documentaries, representing close to one fifth of a BILLION dollars.

I don't think he's got a whole helluva lot to apologize for, and the sour grapes from people who will never make a film, let alone a top ten documentary, are pretty laughable...

sour grapes

That and more. Not only do they want to hate Michael Moore's films, but they want to compare the box office take for those with everything else coming out of Hollywood - which they also hate.

Here's a funny article in which it is claimed that by making remarks on unfettered capitalism Jim Carrey has turned off people who would otherwise see A Christmas Carol. What was that film about, anyway?

He's made a lot of money by exploiting serious situations and by pandering to populist impulses among the lower classes. I don't know how he can sleep at night.

Media, I don't think tigris wants to be draped with baby deer.

the sour grapes
"Rotten crabs" is the phrase in NZ, but we know what you mean.
